Toyota Kijang is a commercial, family car model made by Toyota and it is also the most popular vehicle for MiniBus class in Indonesia. First introduced in Indonesia in 1977, Kijang is one of the many models featured by Toyota and the most well known by Indonesian.
The first generation of Kijang was launched on 1977. This first generation of Toyota Kijang merged pickup concept with basic square shape.
This model is also known as "Kijang Buaya" because its car bonnets can be opened sidewards. For this model, the percentage of local parts and components has reached 19%.
The second generation of Toyota Kijang started its sales back in 1981.
The car with chassis code KF20 is also dubbed as Doyok and thus the nick name Kijang Doyok. For this model, the percentage of locally-assembled parts and components has reached 30%.

In 1986, the third generation of Toyota Kijang lineup was launched.
This Kijang generation featured a curvier shape which makes it look more modern. For this model, the percentage of locally-assembled parts and components has reached 44%.

Pada tahun 2001, kami pernah melakukan perjalanan Medan – Jogja selama 3 hari perjalanan dengan menggunakan Kijang. Begitu tangguh, tidak terjadi masalah kualitas selama di perjalanan. The fourth generation of Kijang was introduced in 1997 with newly designed interiors and more aerodynamic exterior parts. This model is also branded as "Kijang Kapsul".

The model has undergone a relatively dramatic change if compared to the previous generations. While the initial concept of its first generation is Basic Utility Vehicles or low class vehicles, the fifth generation is positioned as the middle class vehicles. In addition to Indonesia, this model is also marketed overseas under the name of "Innova" (without "Kijang" moniker).
Karena sudah cocok pakai Toyota Kijang Kapsul dengan ketangguhannya mengarungi jalan kota, tahun 2004 saat Kijang Innova launching pertama kali di Bandung, saya langsung beli 1 unit. Sampai sekarang unit yang sama masih dipakai dan tidak rewel dalam perawatan. Saya sudah tidak sabar untuk upgrade ke Innova yang baru. Toyota INNOVA siiiip… deh

Kijang is an influental part of my life. During my kindergarten time, My father take me to school as well as picked me up after school using his beloved Kijang Grand Extra. I also used Kijang as my first car, I used Kijang Innova to learn how to drive. I like Kijang Innova because of its huge torque and comfort cabin.
