Jakarta – PT. Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) and PT. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) today announced that in this year, Toyota will not only further expand Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) model offering for the Indonesia Market, but also expand to other electrified vehicle (xEV) technology such as Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in order to reach the broader market while in parallel the company will continue to prepare the market readiness by continuously raising public awareness. This is a part of Toyota commitment to continuously contribute to Indonesia by supporting the government’s intention to accelerate electrification.
Toyota is also planning to start local production of a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) model in Indonesia in 2022. The HEV model to be produced locally will not only for domestic market, it is also for export market.
Toyota Indonesia is committed to contributing to the wide spread of electrified vehicles such as Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), including their main component supply chain fit for the condition in Indonesia, taking into account the advantages and challenges of each technology.
Previously, Toyota supported the “Electrified Vehicles Comprehensive Research and Study” initiated by the Ministry of Industry in collaboration with the Ministry of Research and Higher Education and 6 universities in Indonesia. The company provided research tools, namely 18 units of vehicles (6 Prius HEVs, 6 Prius PHEVs, and 6 Corolla internal combustion engine vehicles), data loggers, charging equipment as well as technical assistance.
Currently Indonesia is one of Toyota’s important production and supply bases for vehicle and component in Asia Pacific. Toyota and its group companies in Indonesia are producing vehicles with high local content of 75% to 95% level and exporting automotive products consisting of Completely Built Up vehicles, Completely Knock Down vehicles, engines, components, and production tooling to more than 80 countries in Asia, Africa, Caribbean, Latin America, Pacific, and Middle East regions. This local production and export contributes to the positive trade balance of Indonesia, and helps the economy and industry of the country sustainably grow.
The Toyota Group companies will remain committed to helping popularize xEVs including BEV, PHEV and HEV, working together with various stakeholders such as the government to start with creating scale which is market demand. The aim is to support the country’s goals to achieve cleaner air quality through emissions reduction, reduce oil import toward improved trade balance, and help the Indonesian industry grow sustainably, all of which will contribute to enhancing standard of living and quality of life of the people of Indonesia.
